Most Makeup Looks Good Under a Ring Light. I Wanted to See This in a Car Mirror at Noon

Most makeup looks good under a ring light. I wanted to see this in a car mirror at noon.

Most makeup looks good under a ring light. I wanted to see this in a car mirror at noon.

I've used the same foundation for years. Not because I loved it. Mostly because once you find something that doesn't immediately disappoint you in daylight, you stop experimenting.

Then Westmore Beauty started following me around the internet. Every demo looked staged; perfect lighting, perfect skin. And every ad had a 28-year-old. You'd think that would be enough to discorage me but, I still wondered, could this work for me? I was influenced, so I bought it and hoped for the best!

Product Snapshot

Westmore Beauty Body Coverage is a buildable liquid foundation for face and body. Claims include skin-tone correction, transfer resistance, and coverage for veins, bruises, and discoloration. I chose Natural Radiance. I use it daily, just on my face. I've had it for three months.

What Westmore Beauty Body Coverage Actually Does on Mature Skin

First thing I noticed after ordering: they wanted me to subscribe. I'm from the generation that got 12 cassettes for a penny. I know how these things play out. First purchase. I passed.

A lot of the demos I saw showed women using this almost like self-tanner, full coverage, a whole event. That's not the level of maintenance I'm looking for. I wanted something for everyday use. One product, daily, just on my face.

The application took some practice. The first time I used it, both my face and my shirt were wearing foundation. I've gotten better at it. One light coat, sometimes two. Under two minutes.

Daily Use: One Coat, Just My Face

Daily use, just on my face. One light coat. Sometimes two.

Even after it dries, this is still makeup. It can transfer onto clothing. This mostly happened right afer application and when it gets on your clothes, it wont rub out, get ready to throw your clothes in the wash to get it out.

I also wanted to cover up a scar on my arm. It didn't make it disappear. It just looked more even. "More even" was what I was hoping for. "Disappeared" in my mind, was never realistic.

How I Picked My Shade

There's no tester for this, which is a bit disapointing. You're picking a color from a screen.

I chose Natural Radiance because it looked closest to my skin in the photos. That's the whole methodology. I got lucky, it matched well enough that I didn't need to blend edges or explain anything in the car mirror.

But I live in Florida, and I bought this in the cooler months. My skin in March is not my skin in July. I've already ordered a darker shade to test once the sun has had its say. I'll report back on that separately.

If you're trying to figure out which shade is yours, I can't tell you. I can only tell you what worked on my skin and what I'm testing next.

Three Months In: What's Held Up and What I Still Don't Know

Three months of daily use. Same performance as week one. Nothing has changed about how it applies or wears through the day. It held up longer than what I was used to.

What I don't know yet is how it holds up in actual Florida summer, humidity, heat, the full situation. I bought this in the cooler months. That test is still coming.

Is Westmore Beauty Worth It?

My reality check says it all. It works. In real light, on real skin, it covers and holds. That's the job. It does it.

Some of the demos oversell the transformation in a way that sets the wrong expectation, and that's worth knowing before you buy. The product isn't the problem. The internet just said it louder than necessary.

Three months in, I'm still buying it. One-time purchase. I haven't opted for the subscription.

Common Questions I Had Before Buying Westmore Beauty Body Coverage

Does Westmore Beauty Body Coverage transfer onto clothing? Yes. Even after it dries. Not dramatically, but it happens. White fabric will find it.

How do you pick the right shade without being able to test it? You guess and hope. I chose the one that looked closest to my skin on screen. It worked. I got lucky. If you're between shades, I'd start lighter, you can always build.

Is this for everyday use or more of an event product? Everyday. One coat. Under two minutes. That's how I use it. I wash it off every night with soap and water.

Does Westmore Beauty cover textured skin or scars? It evens them out. It doesn't make them disappear. If the demos made you think otherwise, that's the part the internet oversold.

Does it hold up in heat and humidity? I bought this in the cooler months. I'll know more once Florida does what Florida does. Check back.

I Used a Neck Massager for Two Months. Here's What Happened

I sit at a desk most of the day. By the end of it, my neck and shoulders are tight. Not dramatic. Just constant, the kind of thing you stop noticing until you actually do something about it.

I sit at a desk most of the day. By the end of it, my neck and shoulders are tight. Not dramatic. Just constant, the kind of thing you stop noticing until you actually do something about it.

I didn't want to book an appointment. I didn't want to set anything up. I wanted something I could reach for.

So I bought this viral Shiatsu Neck Massage Machine.

Yes, it looks a little strange.

Product Snapshot

This is a shiatsu neck massager with heat has rotating nodes, adjustable straps, three massage modes, and a 10-minute auto-stop. I've been using it for two months.

Here's What Actually Happened

First impression: it looks like a turtle with hands! I wasn't sure it was going to do anything useful but I was almost too curious not to try it.

Then I turned it on.

The nodes rotate in a kneading motion; pressing and releasing. It's not vibration. It's not percussion. It actually reaches the muscle. Not intense, but enough to feel it working.

It's also quiet. About as loud as a small fan. I was genuinely surprised by that.

What It's Actually Like to Use

Three massage modes. Different intensity levels. Two heat settings, though the heat takes a few minutes to warm up, so plan for that.

Controls are on top. The 10-minute auto-stop is either a feature or an inconvenience, depending on how you feel about falling asleep mid-session. Not that I've done that.

The straps are long. I'm 5'8" and they extend to about my height, which means it works across different body types. You can also flip it or reposition it for your shoulders or upper back. It's not just a neck thing.

Durability Check + What Changed Over Time

Two months in, it still works the same as it did on day one. Nothing has loosened. The heat still reaches temperature. The nodes still rotate the same way.

The one that is a bit disapointing: there's no remote. You either turn it on before placing it, or you reach around to adjust it while you're wearing it. Also, the hands are not adjustable. These things aren't a big deal to me. But it's real, and it's worth knowing before you buy.

Charges with USB-C. Standard cable. That part has never been a problem.

My Take

I don't use it every day. Just when I'm stiff or want to wind down. A ten minute session or two and I'm usually good.

It's not a substitute for anything. It's not going to fix a real problem. But if your neck or other area is tight or sore at the end of the day and you want something you can use without scheduling anything, it does that.

The turtle thing fades. You stop seeing it after a few uses.

Common Questions I Had Before Buying This Shiatsu Neck Massager

What kind of massage does it actually do? Shiatsu kneading, so I'm told. I honestly wouldn't know. The rotating nodes press and release the muscle. Not vibration. Not percussion. It's closer to what a massage therapist does with their hands than most devices I've tried.

Is it only for your neck? No. You can flip it or reposition it for your shoulders and upper back. I use it on my shoulders almost as often as my neck.

Does it shut off on its own? Yes. 10-minute auto-stop. Whether that's a feature or a limitation depends on how long you want a session to last.

What about the no-remote situation? It's the one real inconvenience. You turn it on before you put it on, or you reach around to adjust it mid-session. I've made my peace with it. Decide if you can before buying.

Does it work if you have a larger neck or broader shoulders? The straps extend to roughly 5'8" in length, so there's real range. Works for most body types. It does not have an adjustment to move the hands to a larger area.

I Took a Hot Flash Supplement for 7 Months. My Night Sweats Have Opinions

Most things in The Influenced Collection landed here because I saw them online and made a decision I can't fully explain. This one is different. I was influenced by my gynecologist.

Most things in The Influenced Collection landed here because I saw them online and made a decision I can't fully explain. This one is different. I was influenced by my gynecologist.

She recommended a supplement for perimenopause hot flashes. Hormone-free mattered to me, and the recommendation came from a doctor I trust. So I ordered a bottle of Bonafide Thermella and told myself I'd give it a real shot.

I did not expect it to take as long as it did.

Product: Bonafide Thermella Time Lived With: 7 months, daily use

Here's What Actually Happened

The hot flashes were the kind that wake you up at 2am. The kind where you carry a portable fan in your bag because you've accepted that this is your life now.

I started Thermella and waited.

At 30 days, nothing had changed. Still hot. Still carrying the fan. Still annoyed. I almost didn't reorder.

I reordered anyway. Mostly because I hate quitting more than I hate being hot.

Around 90 days, something shifted. Not suddenly. Not dramatically. I just... stopped waking up. And then I noticed I hadn't touched the fan.

I put it away. That's the turn.

I'm on my seventh bottle.

What It's Actually Like to Use

Two tablets a day. They're not large — easy to swallow. I take mine with my morning coffee, with or without food, no issues either way.

No drowsiness. Nothing weird. Just two tablets and moving on with the morning.

The green tea extract in the formula is decaffeinated. Less than 5mg of caffeine per dose, for anyone who tracks that. A cup of coffee has around 95mg. Not a meaningful comparison.

Durability Check + What Changed Over Time

Seven months in, nothing about the product has changed. What changed is that I stopped thinking about hot flashes as something I was managing and started not thinking about them at all.

The fan is in a drawer. That's the durability check.

My Take on This Hot Flash Supplement

One month is not the test. I almost quit at 30 days and nearly talked myself out of something that actually worked.

If you're considering it, give it three months. The 30-day window tells you almost nothing.

It's not dramatic. It doesn't feel like anything is happening until one day you realize nothing is happening — which is exactly the point.

Common Questions I Had Before Buying This Hot Flash Supplement

Is it hormone-free? Yes. No estrogen, no progesterone. The active ingredients are curcumin, spirulina, and decaffeinated green tea extract.

How long does it take to work? In my experience, 90 days. I had zero relief at 30 days. The shift happened around month three. Plan accordingly.

Does it make you drowsy? No. I take it every morning alongside other vitamins without any issues.

Does it have caffeine? Less than 5mg per dose. The green tea is decaffeinated. A cup of coffee has around 95mg, for reference.

Can you take it with or without food? Either. I take mine with coffee.

Will symptoms get worse? Mine didn't. Seven bottles in, nothing has worsened.

Would you buy it again? I have. Six times.

The Wayfair Nightstand I Almost Scrolled Past, 6 Months Later

My last nightstands didn't survive a house flood. Which is how I ended up spending months searching for replacements and learning that matching a specific bedroom aesthetic after a major life event is harder than it sounds and more expensive than I was willing to accept.

My last nightstands didn't survive a house flood. Which is how I ended up spending months searching for replacements and learning that matching a specific bedroom aesthetic after a major life event is harder than it sounds and more expensive than I was willing to accept.

Here's What Actually Happened: After the flood, the room got a refresh. Which meant my old nightstand taste no longer applied. I searched for months. Nothing matched. Too dark, too light, too bulky, wrong hardware, wrong vibe.

And here's the thing, after going through a flood, I wasn't interested in spending a lot of money on furniture I might have to replace again. These aren't solid wood. They're not heirloom pieces. But they look like they could be, and that was exactly what I needed.

I had Wayfair rewards sitting from a previous purchase so I gave their app a look. Found these. Added to cart before I talked myself out of it.

Assembly: My husband put them together. I monitored from a safe distance. Based on the absence of swear words coming from the bedroom, I'd say it went pretty well.

Durability Check: Too new to report on long term durability. What I can report on is first impressions, and they're good. The drawers open and close smoothly, the finish looks clean, and nothing feels cheap despite the price point.

What I Actually Think: They complete the room. That sounds simple but after months of searching that's exactly what I needed them to do. The fluted drawer fronts are the detail that sold me online and they look even better in person. The wood tone hits the right balance; warm without being too dark, modern without being cold.

After a flood you recalibrate what matters in furniture. Great look. Great function. Price point that doesn't hurt if something happens again. These check all three.

My Take: I found them on the Wayfair app. They arrived faster than expected. And the quality, yeah. They look expensive. They're not. That's the point.

Common Questions I Had Before Buying These Nightstands

They look expensive, are they solid wood?

No. But they look like they could be and after a flood that distinction matters less than you'd think.

Will the wood tone match a neutral bedroom?

I think so. Warm but versatile works with beige, grey, and white palettes.

How difficult is assembly?

My husband assembled both without incident. That's my benchmark for straightforward.

Are the drawers functional or just decorative?

Functional. They open and close smoothly and actually hold things.

Is the fluted detail as nice in person as online?

Better. That's not something I say often.

Would you buy these again?

Already recommended them to someone else. That's a yes.

Shark Steam & Scrub Mop Reality Check: No Bucket, No Cleaner, But Is That Enough?

Why I Bought the Shark Steam & Scrub Mop

I bought the Shark Steam & Scrub Mop because I hate mopping.

Why I Bought the Shark Steam & Scrub Mop

I bought the Shark Steam & Scrub Mop because I hate mopping.

Not the idea of clean floors. I like clean floors.

I hate the process.

The bucket. The dirty water. The wringing. The pushing. The part where I look down and realize I have cleaned one section of tile and still have the rest of the house silently waiting for me.

My house is all tile, so mopping is not an occasional little chore. It is a full-house situation.

When I saw a steam mop that promised no bucket, no dirty mop water, and no floor cleaner in the tank, I understood the appeal immediately.

That was the influence.

It looked like a way to make mopping less of a production.

I was not expecting it to make me love mopping. I was hoping it would make me hate it less.

What the Shark Steam & Scrub Mop Does

The Shark Steam & Scrub S8001 is a corded steam mop with rotating washable pads.

You fill the water tank with water, plug it in, and wait for it to heat. Once you see steam, it is ready to use.

The tank holds about 11 ounces, and for me, that has been enough to cover a good amount of tile before refilling.

It does not use floor cleaner in the tank. It cleans with steam and water, while the rotating pads move across the floor as you push the mop.

This model does not have a sprayer or a lever that adds extra steam for more stubborn spots. I am calling that out because I have seen reviews mention features like that, and that may be a different Shark model. The S8001 I bought uses steam modes, rotating pads, and water in the tank.

This is also a mop, not a vacuum. If there is loose dirt, crumbs, hair, or debris on the floor, you still need to sweep or vacuum first. The dirt this picks up goes into the pads.

That was the part I was most skeptical about.

I have always associated clean floors with some kind of cleaner. So using only water felt like it should not be enough.

But after a few passes, the pads picked up dirt.

That is what made me feel like it was actually doing something.

Not because it looked impressive.

Because the pads showed the evidence.

Here’s What Happened After I Used the Steam Mop

The Shark Steam & Scrub did make mopping less annoying than my regular mop in some ways.

The steam setup means I am not dealing with a bucket of dirty water, and that matters because the bucket is one of the things I hate most about mopping.

With a regular mop, the water starts clean, then gets dirty, and somehow I am supposed to continue using it like that makes sense.

With this, the dirt ends up on the pads instead.

When I am done, I remove the pads and throw them in the washing machine. That part is important. If I had to hand wash the pads, I would use this a lot less.

You can also buy replacement pads or scrubbers online, which is useful because the pads are the part doing the work.

The cord is long enough for me to cover a good area before moving the plug. I would prefer a cordless version, but the cord has not been a dealbreaker for me.

The heat is also a plus. I like the idea of steam cleaning, especially for lighter maintenance cleaning.

But the part I had to adjust my expectations around was the scrubbing.

The pads rotate, but it does not feel like a deep scrub to me. It feels more like a light pass with a textured sponge.

That is fine for lighter dirt and smaller areas.

It is not the same as getting down on a spot with a real scrub sponge, and it does not replace the feeling of using a cleaner and a traditional mop when the floor feels more soiled.

What Changed Over Time

The mop still works the same way it did when I first bought it.

It still heats up. It still steams. The pads still rotate. The pads still wash well.

What changed over time is how I actually use it.

At first, I thought this might replace more of my regular mopping routine.

It did not.

Today, I use it more in smaller areas where there is less dirt and less need for a good scrub. That is where it makes the most sense for me.

My house is all tile, and for bigger cleaning days, I still feel like I need to get out my regular mop and bucket.

For more soiled areas or stuck-on spots, I still feel more comfortable using cleaner, my regular mop, or a small scrub sponge.

That does not make the Shark Steam & Scrub bad.

It just means the real-life use is more specific than the online promise made it seem.

The One Thing Nobody Says

When people say, “look at the glow,” I would be careful with that.

That is not glow.

That is a wet floor.

There is no cleaning solution going into the tank, so what you are seeing is steam, water, and light reflecting off the tile.

That does not mean it is not cleaning. The pads showed me that it was picking up dirt.

But a shiny wet floor is not the same thing as a floor that has been deeply scrubbed.

That distinction matters, especially if you are buying this because you think it is going to replace your regular mop.

My Take

I still hate mopping.

This makes some mopping less annoying.

It is compact. It is less messy than a mop and bucket. I like that it uses steam. I like that the pads go into the washing machine. I like that it is easy to pull out for smaller areas.

But I do not use it the way I thought I would.

For context, I bought this. It wasn’t gifted to me, and I didn’t return it.

I kept it because I wanted it to work, and it does work.

Just not the way I pictured.

I thought it might replace my everyday mopping. It did not.

With a name like Steam & Scrub, I had more faith in the scrub part. The pads rotate, but they do not feel like a true scrub to me. They feel more like a light pass with a textured sponge.

My household is two adults, no pets, and no small children. I did not buy this expecting it to clean melted chocolate syrup off the floor every day.

I bought it because I thought it could keep up with what I consider a simple life.

That is where it was disappointing.

It could be a good everyday mop for light maintenance.

But if you have what I would consider a typical household, tile floors, shoes in the house, regular dirt, and areas that need an actual scrub, this is not going to change your life.

It stayed.

But it got downgraded.

Reality Check

Works: Mostly

It does clean dirt. The pads get dirty, the steam works, and I like that it is compact, less messy, and easier to pull out than a mop and bucket.

But I use it differently now than I thought I would. I reach for it in smaller areas where there is less dirt and less need for a real scrub.

That is where it makes the most sense for me.

Internet Claims: Oversold

The internet made me feel like this could replace my everyday mopping.

For me, it does not.

The biggest issue is the scrub expectation. With a name like Steam & Scrub, I expected more from the scrub part.

The pads rotate, but it does not feel like a true scrub to me. It feels more like a light pass with a textured sponge.

For stuck-on spots or areas that feel more soiled, I still reach for cleaner, my regular mop, or a small scrub sponge.

Buy Again: Probably Not

Not because it does not work.

It does.

But because it did not replace what I bought it to replace.

If I were buying a compact steam mop only for light maintenance, smaller spaces, or quick cleanups, I might feel differently.

But I bought it hoping it would take over more of my regular mopping routine, and that is not how it ended up living in my house.

The LED Bathroom Mirror That's Better Than Your Ex

This Orren Ellis LED mirror is bright, remembers what you like, and stays clear when things get steamy.

This Orren Ellis LED mirror is bright, remembers what you like, and stays clear when things get steamy.

Here's what actually happened:
I've been using this mirror daily for over a year. The brightness adjustment actually works, which already puts it ahead of most things the internet promises. The anti-fog feature is legitimately useful after a shower, not just marketing speak. And the memory function means it remembers your brightness setting instead of making you reset it every time.

Durability Check:
After a year, the lighting is still even, and the mirror hasn't developed any flickering or dim spots. The anti-fog feature still works and I use it a lot more than I thought I would.

What Changed Over Time:
Not much, which is exactly what you want from a bathroom mirror. It still lights up evenly, remembers my settings, and doesn't fog up after a shower.

My Take:
It's bright, reliable, and doesn't make you repeat yourself. That's when it hit me: I just needed higher standards.

Common Questions I Had Before Buying This LED Mirror

Does the brightness adjust?
It does. You can dim or brighten it (2 speeds) depending on your preferences.

Do you have to reset it every time?
No. The memory function remembers your last setting, which makes it much easier to live with.

Is it worth upgrading to an LED mirror?
If you want better lighting and a mirror that doesn't fog up, yes. It's one of those upgrades you stop thinking about because it just works. A plus is that the mirror has a classic look and will go with just about any vanity/decor.

Nonstick Ceramic Cookware That Doesn't Suck (or Stick)

I started using this SENSARTE cookware because the internet promised a durable nonstick pan that holds up to daily use.

I started using this SENSARTE cookware because the internet promised a durable nonstick pan that holds up to daily use.

Here's what actually happened:
I've been using this cookware almost daily for six months. The nonstick coating is holding up better than I expected. Eggs, vegetables, random weeknight dinners, everything still releases easily.

Durability Check:
The nonstick surface shows minor wear, but nothing that affects performance. I also tested the dishwasher claim, and it survived just fine. It works on induction, too, which I had to confirm.

What Changed Over Time:
After regular cooking, the pan still heats evenly, and the nonstick surface still works. There is a little cosmetic wear, but nothing unusual for something that gets used almost every day.

My Take:
The handles don't burn your hands (a surprisingly important feature I didn't realize I needed to verify). Six months in and I'm still using it daily. That's my bar for The Influenced Collection.

Questions I Had Before Buying Sensarte Non Stick Ceramic Cookware

Does the nonstick coating actually last?
So far, yes. It still releases food easily.

Is it really dishwasher safe?
Yes. I tested it. It survived.

Does it work on induction?
Yes, it works on induction cooktops without any issues.

Does the handle get hot?
No. The handle stays cool during normal cooking.
